Overview: 3Com Enterprise Management Suite (EMS) is a highly scalable, highly flexible network management system with particularly strong configuration and change management functionality. It also has extensible data monitoring and data collection capabilities for network devices. While a 3Com offering with out-of-the-box support for 3Com devices, EMS is capable of managing most managed devices in a network, regardless of vendor, all via a common user interface. The mult-user, client-server architecture allows all members of the IT team to access the system but with careful controls on exactly what operations they are allowed to perform. EMS can be integrated with an existing IT management infrastructure, including integration with HP OpenView and IBM Tivoli Netview. It operates on Windows XP or UNIX Solaris. 3Com Enterprise Management Suite provides a unified network management framework for administering large, multi-vendor networks. Its ability to fully manage networks of any size - with any vendors equipment - is unrivalled and offers the customer their first real opportunity to source networking from any vendor without the need to retrain staff, or use multiple vendor specific management tools. Because operator error is the primary cause of all network downtime, one of 3Com Enterprise Management Suites most important capabilities is its strict change control management. Each member of staff can be provided login access but is limited to what tasks they are allowed to perform. This reduces possibility of inadvertent human error, documents all changes made, and provides the ability for configuration rollback in the event of a error. 3Com Enterprise Management Suite has also been designed to avoid single vendor lock-in with its ability to manage devices from any vendor, not just 3Com. 3Com devices are supported out of the box, and support for 3rd party devices can be added by working with 3Com Professional Services. Because EMS will manage any device on the network, it also reduces the need for staff training when a new vendor is added to the network, as the user interface remains the same regardless of which device is being managed.
